LabEscape

CUWIP2023 is proud to host LabEscape, an APS- and NSF-funded science-based escape room developed at the Univ. Illinois (want to know more — here’s a fun article in the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/04/science/escape-room-lab-physics.html). World-renowned quantum physicist Professor Alberta Pauline Schrödenberg desperately needs your help — the fate and security of the entire world (and more importantly, her funding!) hang in the balance. You'll have less than an hour to search her lab, solve mind-blowing puzzles to reveal clues, and hopefully find a way to escape! The goal of LabEscape, in which all the puzzles involve various physics phenomena, e.g., polarization, blackbody radiation, magnetism, etc., is to show that science can be useful and accessible, as well as beautiful and fun. So create a team of 4-7 Agents (or join someone else's) and sign up below. But hurry — LabEscape ‘sold out’ at the last events it was offered.

LabEscape will be held in 204 Loomis.

POINT VR

Physics Outreach at Illinois through New Technologies (POINT) is an ICASU (Illinois Center for Advanced Studies of the Universe) project aimed at generating interest in physics for middle school and high school students through virtual reality (VR).

This project includes two major goals: incorporating VR headsets and existing science demonstrations into outreach programs and developing further simulations to explain fundamental physics (specifically gravity).

Sign up to try on a VR headset and experience the simulation we will be showing to students.

POINT VR will be in Loomis Lobby.
